A: It is recommended that you only use filtered/distilled water when operating your Dawson’s Designs fountain. Be advised that even when using filtered/distilled water it is natural for the fountain to accumulate calcification on the inside of the bowl and on the pump housing. Particulates from the air and environment will also contribute to any sediment building up in the fountain bowl and on the pump. It is recommended that you empty and clean the fountain once a month. The glass gemstones can be washed with soapy hot water and left out on a towel to dry. The inside of the fountain bowl and pump housing can be wiped down with a damp cloth. To clean any built-up sediment, it is recommended to use 000Steel Wool or 1000 grit sandpaper to gently remove any sediment on the inside of the bowl. Only rub hard enough to remove the scaling and be careful not to sand into the ceramic glaze.
A: Copper can get tarnished as it oxidizes which means that you can get a really cool “patina look” or if you like the shiny copper look better, you can put a dime-size amount of Brasso (copper cleaner) on it with a microfiber cloth to shine it up.
A: Yes, the pump has a wheel on the side of it which allows you to adjust the speed slower (counter-clockwise) or faster (clockwise). This will also change the sound of the fountain.
A: Though we don’t guarantee how much sound will come from each fountain, the best thing to do is to move the gemstones around, adjust the speed of the water and the amount of water you’re using. MAKE SURE THE WATER LEVEL IS ALWAYS ABOVE THE PUMP. If the water goes below the pump, it could burn the pump out.
A: Yes...the best fillers would be anything non-porous. Using real stones/rocks will make the water mucky because they release organic bacteria, so using glass, plastic stones or marbles will keep your fountain cleaner.
